Swelling with pride as I watched the boys receive awards for Track. |
My twin 14-year olds both decided to go out for track this year. Ryan participated in the 100 meter, the 4 X 200 meter, the long jump, the triple jump and discus.
Bryce originally did not go out for track, but then realized that most of his friends were busy after school...practicing for track! He participated in the hurdles, the 800 meter and the 1600 meter. They both did AWESOME!
This year Ryan was selected to be a Track Leader, one of a handful of 8th graders who take on a leadership role to help the coaches manage the over 160 athletes. Ryan stepped up as a Track Leader and organized the other athletes, led stretching exercises, and encouraged them during practices and meets. I'm sure Bryce would have been chosen as a Track Leader himself if he had gone out for track the previous year.
A Perfect (but cold) Moment sitting under my umbrella watching the boys participate in the District Track Meet. |
Track season goes really fast with only four meets, the last one being district finals. We had GREAT (sunscreen-type) weather...except for the last meet, the district finals. It rained and was windy as we huddled under umbrellas, cheering on our middle school athletes.
Still, sitting under the umbrella, after attempting to dry off my place on the cold, metal bleachers, I listened to the rain and cheered on (and whistled loudly when my boys were on the track)...and realized yet another Perfect Moment!

I got a look at Ryan's shoes this weekend and they sure do look like the kayaks -- err, shoes -- of a leader. ;-)
I'm proud of your boys, as well. I would love to get to one of their meets next season to watch them soar.
As the mother of a 7 1/2 year old son and 1 1/2 year old daughter, it is fun and interesting for me to hear about your life as a parent to teenage boys. That is wonderful to hear that your sons are thriving at track athletes. You certainly have a lot to be proud of! Happy (belated) Mother's Day!
I hope that you have a wonderful week with many more perfect moments.
Visiting from PMM
Congrats to your boys!
It was a perfect moment.
